Republican Puritanism: Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan believe wealthiness is next to godliness

The poor and vulnerable would suffer greatly under these Republican puritans who see money as a sign of God’s favor.

Is it the christian right’s puritanical paradigms that are keeping us locked into this WASPy Plutocratic Aristocracy?

Why Are Believers Willfully Ignorant About Atheists?
Why Are Believers Willfully Ignorant About Atheists?

When believers talk about atheists, they often don’t bother to talk to any first. What are they afraid of?

Is it because atheists are usually more educated about the religions they are discussing that they don’t believe in them? :)

Peter Bebergal on Robert Anton Wilson: RAW & Skeptical Belief
“I like to think of myself as a believing skeptic, someone who relishes in the ideas, the imagery, the arguments, the theories, and the literature of the occult and the paranormal, but accepts little of it as valid in a phenomenal sense. I love that small publishers such as Ouroboros Press and Fulgar Limited put out beautiful magical texts and that many current underground and avant garde musicians incorporate occult ideas into their work. But beyond its power as a method for art and imaging, I recognize much of the occult as woo. On the other hand, I accept that the human imagination is something magical, and very powerful and that we know little about human consciousness except how malleable it really is. It’s a precarious position, however, and I often need to remind myself of smarter, more articulate thinkers who shared these views.”

Shocker: Is Our World Becoming Less Violent?

‘Humanity’s lust for violence has undergone a long, precipitous decline at every level of social interaction, from domestic abuse to violent crime to interstate wars. That’s the sweeping and somewhat counterintuitive thesis of psychologist Steven Pinker’s new book, The Better Angels of Our Nature: Why Violence Has Declined. The pacification of humanity, says Pinker, is “a fractal phenomenon, visible at the scale of millennia, centuries, decades, and years.”’

Can religion tell us more than science?

Is it true? Can religion tell us more than science?

Well I suppose in attempting to address this we would need to qualify exactly what we are learning more about, eh?

While it’s true we wont learn as much about physics by myth compared to science, one might argue that myth might teach us more about being human.

The new atheism movement is one that it seems has extricated philosophy and wonderment from its pedagogy. The writer of this article is correct, the atheistic evangelical is no different than the jesuit missionaries who sought to make the world a better place by aligning the world to a single viewpoint.

They do seem to miss the point. While it’s easy to paint a target on imperial Christianity and its crimes against humanity, is that representative of all theologies?

And let me say that I am NOT the sort who advocates religion as a placeholder. What I do advocate is an understanding of the primordial archetypes of man. The art and history of belief that has been codified as religion.

While I can’t advise someone suspend incredulity towards faith adoption, I can honestly say that in a careful examination of the mystic beliefs of humanity, I believe you can learn more about Man than in any anthropology book or origins class.

But, hey, what do you think? Don’t forget to share, comment, re-blog, +1, and like :)
